With the carrots, I mash them to oblivion because of the "texture" issue with my husband. I also don't use onion flakes, I use onion powder.
Ingredients:
1 cup quick cooking oats
3/4 cup milk
1 Tablespoon crushed beef bouillon
1 egg
2 teaspoons parsley
1 Tablespoon onion flakes
1/4 teaspoon thyme
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 pound lean ground beef
1 cup diced, cooked carrots
4 cups hot mashed potatoes
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon onion powder
8 oz. shredded cheese
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- In a large bowl, mix together the oats, milk, egg and bouillon. Add the parsley, onion flakes, pepper, thyme, beef and carrots. Mix well.
- Place this mixture into a pie plate and bake for 45 minutes.
- While the beef mixture is baking, mix the onion powder and 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper with the mashed potatoes.
- Remove the meat pie from the oven and drain the fat. Sprinkle the meat crust with 6 oz. of the cheese.
- Spread the mashed potatoes on top, sprinkle remaining cheese on top of them.
- Broil until the potatoes are lightly browned and the cheese
